Weekend getaways from NYC under two hours: homes you can reach by dinner
Our homes two hours or less from Midtown, in order of the drive, and what two hours really means.
Every rental listing in the Hudson Valley says "under two hours from the city." We measured ours: Google's drive time from Times Square, leaving on a Saturday at 9 AM, rounded to five minutes. Each home's page shows its number. These are the ones at two hours or less, closest first.

Without a car
Amtrak runs to Rhinecliff and Metro-North to Poughkeepsie, and both put you within reach of the Hudson Valley. Plan on a car at the other end either way: rideshare is thin up here, and a weekend of hiking, dinners and a grocery run needs one.
How a weekend works
Check-in and check-out times, the minimum number of nights and the pet rules are at the top of each home's page. In busy seasons most homes need two nights. Book the dates first and plan the drive around check-in, not the other way around.
The Friday problem
The numbers above are a Saturday morning. Leave Midtown at 6 PM on a Friday and you can add an hour or more, most of it before you clear the city. Two ways around it: leave by mid-afternoon, or leave after the rush and arrive late to a quiet road and a home with the heat already on. Both beat sitting on the Thruway.
